MASKED RIDER RYUKI


Kamen Rider Ryuki



Masked Rider Ryuki is a Japanese tokusatsu television series. It was the twelfth installment in the Kamen Rider Series of tokusatsu shows. It was a joint collaboration between Ishimori Productions and Toei, and it was shown on TV Asahi from February 3, 2002 to January 19, 2003. The catchphrase for the series is "Those who don't fight won't survive!!"


13 Riders : the largest number of riders from other Kamen Rider series

Kamen Rider Ryuki is a character in Tokusatsu Kamen Rider Ryuki. He is the second of the 13 Kamen Rider in the series. He is the main protagonist and his true identity is Kido Shiniji.


Masked Rider Ryuki with Dragreder (Contract Monster) & Sword Vent (Weapon)

Ryuki is a Rider with equally powerful melee and far range fighting capabilities. His elements is Fire, given by his monster Dragreder. His weapon is Sword Vent and his final vent is 'Ryuki Kick' which is a usual 'Rider Kick' from the original Kamen Rider.



He is one of the few Kamen Rider that the existence was not resemble to an insect in their his transform.
(eg. Masked Rider Amazon, Masked Rider Hibiki, Masked Rider Den-O, Masked Rider Kiva, Masked Rider Decade, Masked Rider Diend etc. ) Like the other Kamen Rider, he gains his power from a belt and uses his kick for finishing strike.

13 Riders in Masked Rider Ryuki Series

Thirteen Advent Card decks were created for thirteen Kamen Riders. They make Contracts with monsters from the mysterious 'Mirror World', a parallel dimension opposite to our own in which only the Kamen Riders can exist. The Riders draw on their monsters' strength in exchange for feeding them the life force of the creatures they destroy.

The creator of the Advent Cards has only one rule : that there can be only one Kamen Rider. The others must be killed, and the sole victor will be granted a single wish, which leads to a conflict known as the Rider Battle.

All over the city, innocent people are being mysteriously abducted, never to be seen again. During his investigations of these incidents, Shinji Kido, an intern at the online news service ORE Journal, discovers one of the Advent Card decks at an apartment where every reflective surface has been covered by newspaper.

He is soon sucked into the Mirror World, discovering the terrifying truth behind the disappearances : people are literally being pulled through mirrors by the monsters of the Mirror World so that they may feed. He is about to be killed by a powerful dragon named Dragredder when he is saved by Kamen Rider Knight : Ren Akiyama.

Ren seeks to win the Rider War at all costs. He works with a young woman named Yui Kanzaki, who seeks her missing brother: the master of the Rider War, Shiro Kanzaki. Seeing Ren's strength, Shinji enters the Rider War not for the prize, but so that he may protect innocent people from the threat of the Mirror World, and stop the senseless fighting between the Kamen Riders. With Dragredder as his Contract Monster, he becomes Kamen Rider Ryuki.

Character Profile

Shinji is friendly, peace-lover and good-hearted person. He is journalist at one of the news group. He get the Advent Card deck when investigating a series on disappearances. During his investigation, he was attacked by Mirror World monster, dragreder. After rescued by Kamen Rider Knight and Yui Kanzaki, he made contract with dragreder and become Kamen Rider Ryuki. Many things happen to Shinji after he become a Rider, but he keeps maintain his Happy-go-lucky attitude.

The main reason for Shinji to fight is to protect the innocent people from the Mirror World Monster and stopping the war between Rider. During this series, Shinji Ideas often experience rejection from other Rider, including from Ren, whom he consider as his closest friend.

Shinji eventually found a kindred spirit in Tezuka Miyuki (Kamen Rider Raia). They tried to stop the Rider war together until Raia was killed by Kamen Rider Ohja. Though Ren and Shinji is eventually a good friend, they also maintained some of a rivalry between them.

At the end of the series, he was stabbed in the back by a monster before he could transform while protecting a little girl and died with a devastated Ren by his side shortly afterwards. When Kanzaki Shiro reverted time back to normal after Yui's death, Shinji's life was restored as normal journalist with no memory of being a Rider.

In 13 Riders Special, his role in as Rider was the same, but his origin as Ryuki was much different. It was by fate he was dragged into Mirror World by a monster and saved by Previous Ryuki, Koichi Sakakibara.

But Shinji was wounded and wishing to saving his life, Sakakibara gave Shinji his deck and faded. Shinji became Kamen Rider Ryuki and still prevent other rider from fighting as his way to thank Sakakibara. While fighting with other Riders, the Ryuki deck is destroyed by Kamen Rider Odin.

After Kamen Rider Knight was killed by Kamen Rider Verde, Ren gave Shinji the Knight deck and he become Kamen Rider Knight.






Masked Rider Ryuki Enemies

The Mirror Monsters are entities created by Yui as drawings made by her and her brother when they were young and given life by Yui's mirror-self. As these creatures have no true life of their own, they prey on humans to survive on their lifeforce. The only human they cannot attack is Yui herself, whom they obey absolutely like Kanzaki. However, rogue Mirror Monsters who attack Yui are countered by Kamen Rider Odin or a loyal

Mirror Monster who serves Kanzaki. However, the majority of the monsters are contracted allies and the power source for most of the thirteen Kamen Riders, building their power by absorbing the energy of other defeated Mirror Monsters, but if the energy is not absorbed, it reforms into a new Mirror Monster.

In 2009, Ryuki was adapted into the American television series Kamen Rider : Dragon Knight, the first adaptation of a Kamen Rider Series in the United States since Saban's Masked Rider in 1996.
